A piece of Congleton history is up for auction, Friday 23rd May at Adam Partridge Auctioneers of Macclesfield.
A painting by James Northcote, called “Daniel in the Lion’s Den” was donated to Congleton Urban District Council in 1926 by Sir William Shakerley.
Originally purchased by Walter Shakerley for 100 guineas (£105) in 1814, the painting is now estimated to worth £15,000 – £20,000.
